Watch for the turkey

BONAVISTA, NL – A little girl, her pet turkey and the photo bombing goat were not a part of the assignment but there they were while I waited for the sun to set across the road from her house. The lesson is don’t get so focused on your mission or assignment that you forget to look around you. In the security and protection business they call it “situational awareness”.  Always be aware of what is happening around you while going about you assignment or travels. This is true for photojournalism, travel and street photography especially. There is more than one thing happening. Be open to it and have the reflexes to act quickly. This was two frames and was a better shot than what I was shooting for the assignment.  So, remember, always watch out for the turkey!
