The Complaints Department

Angela Antle and Sean Panting shout it out to the winds on Signal Hill as they kick off the Sound Symposium Complaints Choir …and they want your whine! for performances during Sound Symposium XV July 2 -10, 2010 in St. John's, Newfoundland.

Lets Vent Together! grumble in unison, warble our whinging,
groan out our grouses, expostulate while harmonizing and join the musical
moaners of other nations who have also formed complaints choirs. Citizens of
St. John's could be the world's best complainers…what with the weather, icy
sidewalks, lack of recycling and the fact that we have to fly to Halifax to go
to London!?

The Sound Symposium Complaints Choir is currently gathering complaints: the
serious, silly and ultimately sing-able. Go to our Facebook Group “XV
Sound Symposium Complaints Choir
” or send an email and tell us what you're complaining
about. The complaints will be turned into a song by our talented composer and
musician Sean Panting. Then choir mistress extraordinaire Kellie Walsh will
assemble a group of singers to croon out out complaints. Artist Angela Antle
will create a video of the experience to put on the international Complaints
Choir website.

The XV Sound Symposium Complaints Choir will perform at various locations
throughout the Sound Symposium…stay tuned for your chance to participate.

The first Complaints Choir was started by Finnish artists Tellervo Kalleinen and
Oliver Kochta-Kalleinen. In Finnish the expression “Valituskuoro”
means “Complaints Choir” and it is used to describe situations where
a lot of people are complaining simultaneously.Kalleinen and Kochta-Kalleinen
thought: “Wouldn´t it be fantastic to take this expression literally and
organize a real Complaints Choir!” There are now Complaints Choirs around
the world.
