Twenty years ago today I packed up my cameras, Fodor's Berlin guide and a primitive 286 computer (anyone remember those?) and flew to Berlin to cover the fall of the Berlin Wall and the demise of communism in Eastern Europe. It was heady times in both the East and West and an amazing assignment and adrenalin rush for a young journalist. I ended up traveling from Poland to Turkey on that trip with my work ending up in the Globe and Mail, Newsweek, Christian Science Monitor and a number of other publications.
I still have a small piece of painted concrete on my desk I managed to chip off the wall with a burrowed rock hammer in those photo.
