Finally getting enough ice in St John’s, to do some ice climbing. Not many cities where you can do this roadside and within view of the downtown. This is Nocturnal Wall on the south side of the harbour in St John’s, Newfoundland. …live, climb, repeat. © 2016 Greg Locke

The weather has been horrid in Newfoundland so far this spring and summer so we’ve taken advantage of the few nice days to get outdoors and do what we love … explore Newfoundland! I also had the unexpected pleasure of photographing my friend and excellent climber, Carla, who is back on the east coast for the summer.

Erinn and her climbing team mates wanted me to take them to a new area for them called Blood Bath. We only had a few hours after supper so this was a good choice as it was close by, offered a number of shorter but challenging routes and had easy access to the top rope anchors. We stayed late but the setting sun caste an amazing light so the girls broke out the head lamps for the last few climbs. Grabbed this shot of one of the girls as she neared the top on the last climb of the night. Photo by Greg Locke© 2013
