Ice climbing season in Newfoundland

Ice climbing season was very short …but spectacular! on the east coast of Newfoundland this year. We had a rare very short winter. But we made the most of it! Here is Lewis Loader on High Anxiety near Flatrock, north of St John’s. This waterfall route comes in pretty solid and consistent every year as a 40m (120ft) WI5.

Winter is here!

…and that means shooting some ice climbing. Here is a little “Behind The Scenes” of me hanging out with Terry Day climbing “High Anxiety”, a 40 meter, WI5 with very irregular formations in Red Head Cove, Newfoundland. Needless to say that this takes a lot of planning. Not only what cameras and lenses to take but the best outdoor gear and safety equipment that will keep you warm and dry but still give you room to hike and climb in.
