From the Norse to the Basque, from the English to the French, Dutch, Spanish and Portuguese, those who came to Newfoundland sailed the North Atlantic to get here. Today, instead of wooden sailing ships hunting for whales, seals and fish its coastal cruising, racing and staging port for transatlantic sailors. The circumnavigation of the island of Newfoundland is still one of the great cruises since Captain James Cook charted its waters in 1763.
